He sat at my bar rail one night, telling me about the girl that he was talking to. He was hanging out with Brandon, my boyfriend (now husband) at the time. He talked about where she lived, what she did, how old she was. “But she’s still no Kelsey,” he said to Brandon. “Who’s Kelsey?” I asked. I hadn’t known Tyler very long, but something about the way he said her name and the way eyes lit up when he said her name had me curious.
She was the love of his life. The high school sweetheart that got away. He let her go because basically, he was dumb and in high school (his words, not mine). But as he talked about her jokes, their phone calls as “friends” and the countless hours they spent together at horse shows, I knew that their story wasn’t done.
“I’m still secretly in love with her.” he said. “Everyone I date, everyone I talk to..it’s not the same. They’re not HER.”
That was two years and two months ago. After living hundreds of miles a part, and surviving on Skype dates and phone calls for weeks at a time, they just celebrated their two year anniversary. They have two lovely dogs and just got a set of keys to a little house in a small town. Their horizon is glowing and Brandon and I are so blessed to call them best friends and brunch buddies. Kelsey and Tyler, we can’t wait for what’s to come 😉 xoxo- M+B
