Detroit was home. It was where she had grown up, started out on her own, and first fell in love with the boy who she had never dreamed would enter her life. She took him home to her family and they would spend the long weekends trying out local eateries, listening to live concerts, and exploring the city that held her heart. It wasn’t long after that Laura knew that Josh was the man who she would spend all of her future long weekends with, forever.
And one summer day, right before she embarked on a long trip to Kenya, Josh called her outside to look over the Midwest landscape of the house he had fixed up for them to someday call home. Just as she was putting the pieces together of what was about to happen, Josh knelt down with a ring that had been passed down for generations and asked Laura to be his wife.
They’ll be married this autumn surrounded by family and friends, in the small Indiana town they now call home. Since Laura couldn’t spend her wedding day in the city she loves so dearly, we thought it was only appropriate to explore Detroit for their engagement session. We spend the morning exploring Belle Isle and the downtown alleys of a city whose reviving itself one street at the time. Laura and Josh, thank you for waking up at the crack of dawn, giving us all the good spots to eat and drink, and being as bubbly as one could be when the sun is just rising. I can’t wait to spend your wedding day laughing with you two all day long. All the love – xx, M
